SCREENSHOTS, INTERVIEWS and BEHIND THE SCENES

fifteen interviews

Two sets of interviews (before/after) are done with close friends. These are the bedrock of From 500, allowing the story to flow naturally but critically from sources that know me the best.

I learn that you can ask tough questions of people when you are willing to understand their journey. We face the tough questions together.

Through use of a mentor, the beginning stages of getting better start with critical challenges from a role model. His guidance and belief in me set me on a path away from him and toward my dream.

Interviews are conducted with my previous psychiatrist, psychologist and surgeon to learn more about my physical and mental health past. To appreciate where I am, I have to hear where I was.

No subjects had seen any footage before their interviews. Most interviews were conducted in 2017 and 2018. A few follow up interviews were done in late 2019 which share reaction to the first half of the series after little/no updates over the years.

Yes, I am the sole creator of this docuseries. Though I did all the creative work, I couldn't have done it without the people interviewed in this project and those that weren't. It has been an incredible experience, where it sometimes feels like I am 'Truman Show'ing myself. I have wanted to be a filmmaker since I was 15 and worked on my skills through the years passively until this project came to me in a horrible mental state when I got some great advice.

I heard to overcome depression and obesity people have been successful when they have a hobby or craft they can immerse themselves in. I knew I wanted to make a documentary about this, but I had no money or support at over 500 pounds. I started recording in hopes that I would lose the weight, and figure out the craft as I went. Starting with an iPhone 4 I began confessionals in 2009. The next ten years I would learn more than I could have ever imagined about myself, mental health, obesity, friends, family and my love for filmmaking. My love for filmmaking grew everyday as I got better and invested more into From 500.

This project saved my life. I hope it can help others struggling and inspire those who dream.
